Head of the Gastroenterology Department at the National Cancer Institute since 2017.
Dr. Boris Pekárek is a gastroenterologist. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in Bratislava in 2002. He worked at the Internal Medicine Clinic in Trnava from 2002 to April 2010. He obtained his specialization in gastroenterology in 2008.

Since April 2010, he has worked at the Gastroenterology Department of the National Cancer Institute. He has led the department since 2017. He completed several specialized training courses abroad. He focuses on endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of early tumors of the esophagus, stomach, colon, and rectum.

He served as chair of the Oncology Section of the Slovak Gastroenterological Society from 2018 to 2024. He is the current chair of its Endoscopy Section and a member of the Society’s committee. He publishes, lectures at conferences, and trains basic and advanced endoscopic techniques in Slovakia and abroad.

I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Bratislava in 2002. From 2002 to April 2010, I worked at the Internal Medicine Clinic in Trnava, where I obtained a specialization in gastroenterology in 2008.

Since April 2010, I have been working at the Gastroenterology Department of the National Cancer Institute, and since 2017, I have been the head of this department. I have completed several specialized training courses abroad. From 2018 to 2024, I was the chairman of the Oncology Section of the Slovak Gastroenterological Society.

I am currently the chair of the Endoscopy Section of the Slovak Gastroenterological Society and a member of the committee of the Slovak Gastroenterological Society. My main area of interest is endoscopic diagnosis and endoscopic treatment of early tumors of the esophagus, stomach, colon, and rectum.

I share my experience and work results in professional publications and at professional conferences, as well as a trainer of basic and advanced endoscopic techniques at home and abroad.
